Advent Calendar 2023 Day 7: Emu's Broadcasting Company, 1977

Any programme that mocks its own channel's Christmas ident right at the start when it can only have been a couple of days old, as would have been the case at the time, has plenty going for it. Rod and Emu had completed three series of semi-pirate broadcasting and any residual disappointment of being edged out of The Greatest Night Of Christmas Television Ever (TM) to Christmas Eve is made up for by the unfettered - and, don't forget, entirely self-penned - lunacy bridging the kid/family gap with broad parodies across the transmitted field. Notably current affairs/consumer strand The Searching Beak Of Emu repeats by popular demand Rod's investigation into ease of using supermarkets, even if it has edited out the act of Hull throwing himself face first into a chest freezer.
