It feels a very long time since Mel and Sue, with their energy and their love of cultural kitsch and overcomplicated intros, burst onto telly with the kind of cookery and chat mix many have since tried but nobody has matched the bonhomie of. It's also weird to think it lasted less than a year, closing at the end of February 1998 and moving to become Late Lunch at 6pm for four days a week, then one day a week, then after a year no days a week as they went to a failed spell at ITV. Call this a stealth pilot, then, as it (which here follows six minutes of adverts, despite what you've heard about commercial revenue being down at this time of year) went out at 5.30pm on Boxing Day, featuring Vic, Bob and Ulrika, who as often led to great fascination about the idea of a Swedish culture being different to a British one.
